It turned out that her husband was related to me! The HUDSON family left the village in the 19th century but some descendants had returned many years later.

I enjoy your blog, and I have nominated it for the Ancestor Approved Award in a post at Genealogy Leftovers.Judy Websterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02331380147873608965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8989121904965444460.post-71379547582704859952011-01-23T20:58:28.597-06:002011-01-23T20:58:28.597-06:00I have had success after success with small town o...I have had success after success with small town organizations when researching my family. We are also military but have never been lucky enough to be stationed close to where our families were from. Maybe some day!Heather Kuhn Roelkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07247311735034470203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8989121904965444460.post-43617173798561145002011-01-23T20:19:03.648-06:002011-01-23T20:19:03.648-06:00I'm in the same boat as you are! We've made quite a few cross-country trips in the past 10 years though (we're military) and every time we do, I make sure to make a short detour to do a bit of on site research. I've always had such good luck in the small towns. The people are so helpful. So glad that you were able to find some of the information that you were looking for. :)

Jennifer
www.climbingmyfamilytree.comJenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06947147235981059318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8989121904965444460.post-89665617916481665942011-01-23T16:41:39.084-06:002011-01-23T16:41:39.084-06:00Heather, I too must admit that I am more of an int...Heather, I too must admit that I am more of an internet genealogist - also having small children in our home, makes for tough trips anywhere sometimes :) Your post reminds me of a volleyball tournament I attended for one of my kids in the fall - 3 hours from home and wow! a few miles from the town of one set of my ancestors. I just HAD to make a trip/stop/visit somehow I had to do it. While I didn't have the time you managed to get from your stop, it really felt good to be there among them in the cemetery. It pays to venture out when we've got the opportunity to do so!Cindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02235026202257819623noreply@blogger.com
