He died in January of 1872, so not long after this signing event. But his membership was mentioned in his obituary. He married both the sister of my ancestor (Margaret Van Valin; at least her 2nd or 3rd marriage) and after she died, Margaret's niece, daughter of another sister of my ancestor: Elizabeth McCord (her 2nd marriage). Elizabeth was involved in what became a famous lawsuit, because apparently creditors tried to cash in on debt notes that had already been paid after the Chicago Fire. I don't quite understand all of the details of why this made such a stir in the State Supreme Court (I was only trying to find proof of his marriage to Margaret!)Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04500724701139176293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8989121904965444460.post-60420859484492245052022-01-19T17:56:56.723-06:002022-01-19T17:56:56.723-06:00I have 2 Civil war letters from a Phillip Kuhn to ...I have 2 Civil war letters from a Phillip Kuhn to a Bertha Kuhn.<br />You may be a relative.Mr. Nutthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15301253549599546180noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8989121904965444460.post-5949139320243627932021-08-09T19:27:41.633-05:002021-08-09T19:27:41.633-05:00I am a great-grandaughter of Milton H. My grandfather, Eugene Myers, died before I was born, but I remember visits from my uncle, Arthur Myers, when I was a child. I have a genealogy on the Myers' side of the family, but there are some misspellings that I have found, so there may be other inaccuracies as well. Boston Corbet, the union solder that shot John Wilkes Booth in the Virginia tobacco barn, was a federal court bailiff in Wichita Ks. about the turn if the century. He reportedly went crazy in the courtroom, and was fired. He then went to Lawton, Ok.in 1903, and was in Lawton, OK. the same day that the man calming to be Booth committed suicide. The going crazy made no sense to me until a few days ago I watch a video on Youtube about this, and it seems Corbet was a POW in Andersonville, and before that was a hatter! He made beaver hats, the saying mad as a hatter, comes from hatters used mercury in the process to cure beaver skins for hat making. If this is true what are the odds that both would be in the same small town, in Indian Territory, a refuge for wanted men, he same day? I have a carbon copy of the telegraph that he sent to Truman from Italy. (Anzio cemetery) And him laying wreath and saluting the tomb. He was one of the first presidents of AWD. I think. Kansas City. On the internet there is a pic from the KC library site with a bunch of people sitting in an outdoors function. My grandfather is on the right. I think that that fact is credited to me- since I told the paper it was a speech by Eddie Richinbaker about Communism. I am Stephen Wilson. Mom told me the AWDs had something to do w the GI bill. I believe his Regiment was the 110th Ohio Volunteers. Grandfather was a Mennonite and did not believe in war and killing, however, Grandfather Milton had a friend at the store where they both worked. The friend was drafted and was married with two children. So, Grandfather Milton enlisted in his friend's stead.
