Google Reader is out...what's in?

As you know by now our good friend Google Reader is on the way out. I have only ever used Google Reader to peruse my favorite blogs and now I'm at a loss. What reader do you use? What do you plan to switch to when Google Reader is gone?

  4. I've very sad about google reader shutting down. There is a petition to try to get google to change their mind, it's worth a try: https://www.change.org/petitions/google-keep-google-reader-running

  5. I'm trying out Feedly. They automatically import your Google Reader info and plan to continue when Google Reader shuts down. There are some tips on transitioning here: http://blog.feedly.com/2013/03/14/tips-for-google-reader-users-migrating-to-feedly/

  6. Try http://theoldreader.com. They are experiencing a lot of volume right now with users switching over to it. There are instructions for importing your Google Reader feeds into The Old Reader here: http://lifehacker.com/5990456/google-reader-is-getting-shut-down-here-are-the-best-alternatives

  8. Lori, Kathryn and Joe: thank you for the ideas. I'll have to test drive them and see what works best for me. Luckily, we have a few months to pin it down. You'll have to let us know how these options work for you!

  9. Rosemary, please let me know if you come across a reader you like. I plan to research some of these options and post my findings. Also, Jana at Jana's Genealogy has some links to other suggestions here: http://janasgenealogyandfamilyhistory.blogspot.com/2013/03/follow-fridayfab-finds-for-march-15-2013.html

  10. Heather, I'm going to leave it until May. Perhaps something will come along. I really don't want one that is image oriented; most of the blogs I read are text oriented with the occasional image to illustrate a point or show something interesting. I've bookmarked a lot of sites comparing readers and so far I like what I see of NetVibes.
