  1. I bet he was the envy of the neighborhood. Check the cars next door! Great auto history here.

    1. I know! Such a slice of history. This block still looks the same, though the trees are a but taller.

  3. That looks like a Chevy Corvair! A girlfriend of mine in high school had a maroon Corvair convertible with which she cut a memorable image tooling around with the top down and her hair flying. :-)

This was the car that Ralph Nader made infamous and that brought Nader to widespread notice in the 1960s with his book about Corvair handling problems titled, "Unsafe At Any Speed." It was a distinctive looking car, but the Nader investigation and book doomed it and it was only around from like 1960 or so until 1969. Like the VW Beetle it had a rear-mounted air cooled engine! [I had a red Beetle.]

    1. Wow, John, I didn't know about it's demise. My dad had two, the one above and a convertible. I'll have to ask him about the Nader connection. I see another Corvair blog post in my future!

    1. I know! I think this was the first car he bought on his own so he was especially proud.

  5. I remember those cars! A first car is always memorable and it's great someone thought to take a photo. (That rarely happened in our family.)

  6. Thanks, Nancy! My dad's family was always good about taking "important" photos. It's a trait my dad had and passed on to me!
